Teen Curriculum

Our Teen Team facilitates the program for the teens during the 11 a.m. service every Sunday. Each month, a theme is incorporated into the different lessons each teacher leads. The themes are: Uniqueness, Love, Compassion, Creation in Mind, Creation in Action, Oneness, Family, Cooperation, Peacemaking, Caretaking, Diversity of World Family, and Sacredness.

In addition to the themes, the five Unity Principles are connected to the lesson flow. Each lesson includes opening prayer, meditation, blessing of tithes and talents, group building, discussions, creative expressions, and closing circle. The teens are encouraged to participate and lead many parts of the lesson.

Every fifth Sunday, the teens host the ushering and greeting for the congregation to help them move forward in adulthood service within the church.
 

We have Unity Bucs, which each teen earns for participation, such as bringing a guest, leading a reading or prayer, extra service at the socials or other theme events, tithing time or talents and money. They earn extra for ushering and greeting, as the exposure to the adult community can be quite intimidating at this age.

Each teen has the opportunity to learn and grow through this experience and become part of the wholeness of our Unity Church of Palm Harbor. Every two months the Bucs are added up, and the winning teen gets a gift certificate to a place of choice. 

The lessons around each theme include family series movies with morals, Bible stories and their application to today’s life, service projects for the church on Mothers Day and Father's Day, chapter books such as “The Seven Habits of Successful Teens” and “Who Moved My Cheese,” setting goals, following through and achieving them, reading and discussing topics pertinent to teens and the choices they are faced with in their own environment, life issues, relationship issues, "The Twelve Powers of Unity," and "Five Unity Principles." 

Every second Sunday, the teens serve ice cream sundaes centered around a different theme, with flavors and toppings to match. Sunday Sundaes are on a love-offering basis with 1/3 of the money going to teen projects and outings and 2/3 of the money going to the New Sanctuary Fund.

Some of the social projects the teens participate in include collecting school items for the Children’s Home in Tampa, collecting children’s clothing and toiletries for “Para Todo Los Ninos” in Honduras, and helping at the Soup Kitchen in Clearwater.

Our teen program is social and fun. It brings Unity teachings to a practical level which each person can try out for him/herself. This service-oriented program is also motivating and stretching.
